Merry Christmas from last century! These pretty penny postal greetings were sent to my husband's uncle Wally in Cleveland, Ohio, in the early 1900s.
The last card was the only one signed "From Grandma." There was no actual grandmother was alive by the time this boy was born in 1905, and the sender put Grandma in quotes. Maybe this was from a family friend or a neighbor?
The penny postcard craze of the early 20th century was fueled by the low, low cost of a stamp--just one cent. Now that the US penny has been made obsolete, we're really seeing the end of an era.
And may you and your family enjoy a peaceful holiday.
