Sentimental Sunday - Henrietta Mahler Burk
I know only a little about her: for example, her husband Isaac Burk died suddenly of a heart attack in 1943 while visiting Henrietta's sister Ida Mahler Volk and Ida's husband Louis Volk in Washington, D.C. Her daughter Dora died just a few years later, and Dora is an even bigger mystery that I hope will be solved some day.
My younger sister was named after Henrietta (but NOT named Henrietta because my mother insisted she wouldn't inflict an old-fashioned name like that on her daughter, thankfully). Maybe Cousin Lois can tell me some stories she's heard about Henrietta, who I know only from photos like the above and my parents' wedding album. Henrietta, what were your dreams and aspirations? What was important to you? This Sentimental Sunday is for you, Grandma Henrietta. Maybe I'll get to know more about you in 2011 through genealogical research.
